Star-shaped zigzag tree outline with center cross
Free CAD block from the Trees in plan library (74 blocks), drawn 1:1.
About this block
Star-shaped zigzag tree outline with center cross, drawn in plan view. It measures 16' 4" wide and 16' 4" deep (4.99 m × 4.97 m), and it is drawn 1:1, full size, so it drops into any drawing set up in meters or in inches without rescaling.
It also comes as a 3D model built from these drawings.
From the Trees in plan library: 74 blocks drawn to one standard, each one available on its own.
In practice
Where it goes
A zigzag star outline with a cross at the center is a quick symbol for a large tree on diagrammatic plans, massing studies and 1 in = 40 ft (1:500) urban layouts, where the cross marks the trunk for layout. Use it for avenue and square trees in a design drawn with straight lines, over hardscape rather than hatched lawn.
Clearances to leave
With a spread of 16 ft 4 in × 16 ft 4 in (499 × 497 cm), the star covers about the length of a 18 ft (5.5 m) parking stall, so a row of them needs an island at least 9 ft (2.7 m) wide. Keep the cross 26–33 ft (8–10 m) from a foundation and 18–24 in (46–61 cm) back from the curb face.
Pairs with
Combine it with the Faceted polygon tree canopy divided into segments for the same angular style and the Tree with small trunk circle and radiating dashes for smaller trees; a straight double row with the crosses on a layout grid reads well.
Common questions
What are the dimensions of this block?
It measures 16' 4" | 4.99 m wide by 16' 4" | 4.97 m deep. The drawing is 1:1, full size, so it inserts at the right size in metric and in imperial drawings.
Is there a 3D model of this block?
Yes. A 3D model built from this block's drawings, 16' 4" wide, 16' 4" deep and 19' 7" high, is free to download in STEP, DXF 3D, OBJ, GLB, 3MF and STL. It is a closed part, so it also prints at 1:50 or 1:100 for a scale model.
File formats, AutoCAD versions and units are explained on the formats page; every file is free for personal and commercial work under the license.

3D model
Built at real size from the plan drawing, from its plan, which gives no height: a crown whose top view is the drawn outline on a trunk at its centre, 1.2 times as tall as it is wide (between 10 and 40 ft). Drag to orbit, underneath too; scroll or pinch to zoom.

Checks
- Canopy edge to the house wall7' 3"Minimum 3' 3", recommended 6' 7"
Design notes
- Keep tree canopies at least 6' 7" from the house; large species need half their mature spread.
- A terrace for a table of four needs about 9' 10" × 9' 10" to move round it.
- Plan symbols at their real canopy size show clients how much shade a tree will give.
