Where it goes
A 15 in (38 cm) square side table for the arm of an armchair, the gap between two beds in a hotel room or the seating niche of a corridor. On the plan it goes next to a chair arm or between two chairs, and the inset top gives it a double outline that stops it being mistaken for a stool or a plant stand.
Clearances to leave
Slide it 2–4 in (5–10 cm) from the chair arm so it reads as a separate piece at ¼ in = 1 ft (1:50), and keep the top at 22–26 in (55–65 cm) so it sits level with the arm. Its footprint fits the 16 in (40 cm) gap between two armchairs and still leaves 24 in (60 cm) behind the chairs for someone to pass.
