In practice
Where it goes
The standard seated plan figure: a person on a chair with hands near the knees, the one to put on every chair in a dining layout, a classroom plan, a waiting room or an auditorium. Place it on each chair around a table or along a row of seats, and leave it off empty chairs to show occupancy.
Clearances to leave
The figure takes 19 by 28 in (48 by 72 cm) with the chair, so a dining table needs 24 in (61 cm) of edge per place and 36 in (91 cm) from the table edge to the wall for the chair to pull out. Where someone passes behind, widen that to 44–48 in (112–122 cm).
Pairs with
Put it on the seats of the Three-seat sofa with rounded track arms and on the chairs around a table, and draw the Mannequin figure seated with one forearm across lap in the section. Four around a 36 in (90 cm) round table set a café plan.
