In practice
Where it goes
Arms and legs splayed in plan gives a star-shaped figure that suits gym floor plans, dance studios, playground layouts and yoga rooms, where each person needs a mat-sized patch of floor. Set it on each mat in a studio plan or on the sprung floor of a gym layout to show spacing between exercisers.
Clearances to leave
The splay takes 21½ by 21 in (55 by 54 cm), but the arms in motion need more, so space studio positions at 60 in (150 cm) centers and keep a 36 in (90 cm) lane along one wall. On a mat of 24 by 71 in (60 by 180 cm) it sits comfortably with room for a fuller stretch.
Pairs with
Use it with the Mannequin figure raising knee, arm across chest in the studio section, and with the Plain mannequin figure with limbs outstretched for the lying-down positions in the same class. A grid of six on a mirrored wall plan sets the class size.
